We are headquartered in Livermore, CA.JOB SUMMARYThis Engineering position is responsible for engineering design, problem resolution and other engineering duties in support of the design and manufacturing of parts and sub-systems. This person will have direct influence at the part level to optimize the piece parts and sub-systems. This position reports to the Engineering Supervisor but may also get direction/guidance from senior engineers. This is a direct, full-time position TECHNICAL FOCUSThe mission of the Sustaining Engineering team is to develop new option content, cost performance improvements to the current product, and drive resolution of technical Supply Chain, Production, and Field issuesEmphasis on providing robust, service-friendly, and cost-conscious electrical designs for vehicle low voltage (12/24VDC) and high-voltage (600VDC, 240/480VAC) systemsExperienced troubleshooting capabilities that efficiently drive to root cause and ability to identify implement permanent corrective actionsFamiliarity with vehicle and/or industrial control systemsJOB RESPONSIBILITIESCommunicates component level design/ideas to internal/external customersEvaluates customer product requirements and develops product designs to meet customer needsInterpret customer requirements, and map requirements onto existing designs when possible, and/or develop new designs when neededOptimize design via analytical, numerical and/or empirical assessmentsEnsure thermal and electrical model analysis are accurate as well as product requirements are metProduce and/or evaluate possible design solutions to improve cost, quality, delivery, and performance on specialized knowledge of engineering applications together with possible involvement of other functional engineers and/or customer/supplier personnelDirect CAD Designers to complete 3D models and drawings as necessaryRelease drawings accordingly to support production cost estimation and prototype quotesReview CAD models and drawings of component to ensure their integrityUse CAD modeling software to create components, assemblies, and engineering drawings for manufacturingCreate and maintain Bill of Materials (BOM along with all project documentationDesign and document solutions, within the scope of concepts for components and modules, taking project guidelines (e.g., safety, quality, cost, weights and dates) into considerationDetailed electrical design including design for manufacture and assemblyAnalyze assignments and determine engineering specifications which must be fulfilled for problems as well as projectsSupport production ramp ongoing/continuous product/process improvementPreform and coordinate laboratory testing of prototypes for component characterizationWork with the test engineer(s) to create DVP R, execute the defined test plan and review the test results/reportsConduct field testing and provide preliminary evaluationsDevelop and maintain the technical specification for desired performance at the component levelAbility to prioritize assigned tasks to maintain scheduleWorks independently on assigned component tasks with some guidance required from senior engineers on sub system level tasksWorks productively with other engineers, designers, technicians, sales representatives, installers, and project managers so the project is delivered on schedule and on budgetSupport purchasing, fields service and other internal customers as requiredLead or support prototype order and procurementOperate in a team environment and provide input to design solution during the design development phaseApplies industry practices and standards (NFPA, NEC, APTA, etc.) at the direction of the senior engineersArea of expertise at the component levelModel and drawing documentation are the accurate and completeExhibits insight on electrical design sense to develop and meet design requirements with product designs that are manufacturable, serviceable, meet all performance objectives and meet customer requirementsHands on troubleshooting of vehicle systemsReleased designs are cost effective, manufacturable, serviceable, meet all performance objectives, and meet customer requirementsREQUIREMENTSBachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent discipline requiredMinimum 4 years of engineering experienceMS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) SkillsFamiliarity with manufacturing process and environmentElectrical Engineer:Application of sound electrical design fundamentalsWorking knowledge in electrical power distribution including AC and DC systemsIn-depth knowledge of electrical load calculation and circuit protectionExperienced with high voltage system design and necessary safety guidelinesExperienced with low voltage harness designExperienced in generating harnesses and electrical schematic using CAD softwareFamiliarity with automotive components such as circuit breakers, relays, and wiring, etc.Familiarity with automotive industry standards such as SAE, NFPA, FMVSS, etc.Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot automotive electrical systemsABOUT THE ENVIRONMENTAbility to lift 25 lbs.Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk and occasionally kneel or squat.Limited travel may be required.Typical start time is 6:00am (negotiable)Note: Please submit resume in PDF Format.
