City Nashik

Located close to Mumbai and Pune and on the banks of Godavari River, Nashik is an important city in the Indian state of Maharashtra. According to mythology, Lord Rama, his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana spent their exile years in this region. It is also said that Nashik got its name from Nasika, meaning nose in Sanskrit – because this is the place where Lakshmana cut off the nasika (nose) of Ravana’s sister to save Sita.
The holy city hosts the legendary Kumbh Mela every 12 years. In addition, there are more than 100 temples and holy places, including Ramkund and Panchavati that attract thousands of tourists to Nashik every year. While being a place of great religious significance, Nashik is also an emerging centre of trading. It has been ranked the 16th fastest developing city in the world, according to ‘The City Mayors Foundation’ report. Recently, the city has also been named the most promising city of India by the First Smart Cities Council.

Key Industries and Job Opportunity

Traditionally, Nashik’s economy has been mainly dependent on agro-based industries, such as, textile, cotton, and wine industries. More than 10,000 tonnes of grapes are produced in the region every year, which help fuel the city’s wine industry. In addition, Nashik is famous for producing hand woven silk saris, also known as Paithani. The agro-based industries generate hundreds of jobs in Nashik every year.
However, past few decades have seen the city’s manufacturing, engineering, and banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) sectors growing at a steady pace. Proximity to Mumbai and Pune, ample water supply, and state-of-the-art infrastructure are some major reasons for this growth. The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has developed industrial zones in Ambad, Gonde, Satpur, Igatpuri and Sinnar to attract more investments in the city. Many acclaimed companies, including Siemens, Mahindra & Mahindra, LG Electronics, CEAT, TI Cycles, and Samsonite either has manufacturing units or important R&D centres in Nashik.

Consequently, many companies are showing interest in making investments in the city’s real estate sector. Several residential and commercial projects are already under construction in areas like Adgaon, Gangapur Road, Nashik Road, College Road Pathardi, and Deolali Camp.
