City Nashik

Located close to Mumbai and Pune and on the banks of Godavari River, Nashik is an important city in the Indian state of Maharashtra. According to mythology, Lord Rama, his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana spent their exile years in this region. It is also said that Nashik got its name from Nasika, meaning nose in Sanskrit – because this is the place where Lakshmana cut off the nasika (nose) of Ravana’s sister to save Sita.
The holy city hosts the legendary Kumbh Mela every 12 years. In addition, there are more than 100 temples and holy places, including Ramkund and Panchavati that attract thousands of tourists to Nashik every year. While being a place of great religious significance, Nashik is also an emerging centre of trading. It has been ranked the 16th fastest developing city in the world, according to ‘The City Mayors Foundation’ report. Recently, the city has also been named the most promising city of India by the First Smart Cities Council.
