City Hyderabad

Strategically located in the south-central India, Hyderabad, now the joint capital of Andhra Pradesh and the newly formed Telangana, has always been a global trading centre for a variety of items, including pearl and diamond – hence the nickname “City of Pearls.” During the early years of industrialization, Hyderabad attracted many leading manufacturing companies and research institutions of the country, and later in the 1990s, the city established itself as India’s leading IT and biotechnology hub, popularly known as “Genome Valley of India.”
Hyderabad is also the best city to live in India, according to the latest Quality of Living Report by the human resources consulting firm Mercer. The city beats even the top Indian metropolitan cities like Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai, and New Delhi in terms of political stability, quality of public services, healthcare facilities, recreation facilities and social and natural environment. With the presence of acclaimed technical, academic and research institutions, Hyderabad is a major education centre of the country. It is no wonder then that the city is one of the most popular job destinations in India.

Job Opportunities

Past two decades have seen massive expansion of the city’s service sector, with the development of insurance, finance, IT and IT enabled services (ITeS). The service sector has emerged as the largest contributor of jobs in Hyderabad, while the traditional manufacturing sector continues to create employment opportunities at a steady pace. Starting 1990s, the economic pattern of the city has become more diversified, which helped boost growth in several ancillary sectors, including transport, communication, commerce, real estate, trade, storage, and retail. As such, there is a steady demand of both skilled and unskilled workers in Hyderabad. While offering many high-paying jobs in some of India’s top IT, pharmaceutical and biotech companies, the city also creates several entry-level or average-paying jobs in tourism, healthcare, media, and manufacturing sectors. Hyderabad provides suitable job opportunities to almost every professional, including engineers, chartered accountants, teachers, software development managers, business developers, project managers, and construction workers.
Hyderabad is home to some of India’s leading companies from information technology (IT) and biotechnology and other industries. In fact, 16 companies from the city made it to the list of “India’s Top 500 Companies” - a report recently released by Dun & Bradstreet (D&B). Here’s a look at the top job generating industries of the city.
