City Delhi

Delhi, the capital territory of India, seamlessly blends tradition with modernity, a majestic past with a vivacious present. With Old Delhi still retaining the historic charms of Mughal emperors and New Delhi being one of India’s largest commercial centers, the city-state offers a wide variety of cultural experiences and a host of business opportunities.
According to The India City Competitiveness Report 2014, New Delhi was ranked the most competitive city of India for the fifth time in a row, thanks to the city’s state-of-the-art infrastructure, good governance, skilled workforce, and industrial diversity.

Job Opportunities

The national capital, being the main political and administrative hub of India, offers a large number of public sector jobs. Most of the government agencies have offices in Delhi, so do many of the foreign diplomatic corps and international organizations. With increasing commercial and industrial activity, Delhi also produces a huge number of private sector jobs, providing career opportunities in various industries, including pharmaceutical, banking, media, information technology, and tourism. It is no wonder then that Delhi attracts the top young talents from every part of the country, and offers several high paying job options to engineers, marketing managers, business developers, chartered accountants, and IT professionals, just to name a few.

Key Industries

Over the past two decades, many consumer goods companies have established their manufacturing units in Delhi, creating jobs in various manufacturing sectors, such as, home textiles, gems and jewelry, metals and minerals, electrical and electronics, plant and machinery, and pharmaceutical. However, service industries provide the maximum employment opportunities in the national capital. In fact, the service sector contributed Rs 3.54 lakh crore or 87 percent to Delhi’s total GDP of Rs 4.04 lakh crore in 2013-14, according to the latest statistics from Delhi Government. The thriving consumer market and skilled workforce attract many foreign investors to invest in Delhi’s manufacturing and service sectors. Consequently, Delhi-NCR offers some of the best and most promising job opportunities in the following sectors.

Information Technology

Even though Delhi is still not considered among the top three IT hubs in India, it is fast catching up with Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Chennai. In fact, Delhi’s Information Technology (IT) and Information Technology Enabled Service (ITeS) sectors created the maximum 11,000 jobs in the first quarter of 2015, according to the ASSOCHAM report. The Government has taken some proactive steps to improve the IT/ITeS industries in Delhi. Under the new Industrial Policy, two special economic zones have been developed in the national capital territory of Delhi.

Education

The national capital is home to some of the country’s top educational institutions, such as, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Indian Law Institute, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Jamia Millia Islamia, University of Delhi, Indian Statistical Institute, National School of Drama, National Institute of Fashion Technology, and National Institute of Foreign Trade, just to name a few. With so many acclaimed educational centers based in Delhi, there are a number of employment opportunities for teachers, instructors, dramatists, and professors of medicine, engineering, law, and fashion technology.

Retail

Almost all leading national and international retail brands, including the Future Group, Shoppers Stop, Pantaloons Fashion & Retail, Cantabil Retail India Limited, and Provogue have multiple offices, stores and outlets in Delhi. The retail sector of the national capital region provides plenty of job opportunities in a wide variety of profiles, including marketing managers, sales executives, purchase managers, business development managers, store managers, and operations managers.

Tourism

New Delhi is the starting point for most of the national and internal tours. The city itself has a lot to offer to travelers from all round the country and the world. Delhi houses many Government tourism departments, travel agencies, five-star hotels, airlines agencies, and immigration centers. There is no lack of job opportunities in Delhi’s tourism sector for tour operators, guides, interpreters, hotel managers, salespersons, and catering service providers.

Business Process Outsourcing

The BPO and telecommunication sector of Delhi has always been one of the biggest contributors of jobs in different profiles, including customer support executive, back-office executives, telecoms executives, and tech support providers.

Irrespective of your field of study, experience and skill levels, you are likely to find a suitable job opportunity in Delhi-NCR. If you are planning to make Delhi your job destination, you are certainly on the right track!
